As breeders who consider ourselves custodians of our breed with the aim to not only continue to improve, but more importantly to  preserve it the health and qualities that Cocker Spaniels are known and loved for, we have always been at the forefront of DNA testing.  We were the first Cocker Spaniel breeders in Australia to start DNA testing for PRA and AN.

Parents of our puppies are DNA tested every disease which they can currently be tested for.

These tests are done as part of our diligent surveillance to ensure we keep the incidence of problems in our puppies to an absolute minimum.

DNA tests are a useful part of deciding which parents will be used to have puppies.  We also use DNA testing to help us in the goal to erradicate hereditary issues in the breed without losing the quality of this beautiful breed.  This can be quite complex for people to understand but the main thing as a puppy buyer that you want to know is that ast least one parent is CLEAR for the hereditary issue that is tested for.  We are happy to discuss this in more detail with you.   It is only part of the information used though. We also rely on previous puppy buyers to inform us of any issues they may or may not have come up with and this helps ensure that we can track any issues that could cause a problem for future breedings.
